Tar Heel Walk 2009

A special thank you – and other notes

Post BreastFest, I’m just not sure what to do with myself.

(Perhaps focus on my graduate studies?…Well, whatever.)

But I do know that I want to send a special THANK YOU to everyone who helped to make BreastFest 2008 a success.

Our awesome local sponsors: The Print Shop, Alfredo’s Pizza, Balloons and Tunes, and Bear Rock Cafe

To our friend Harriet, who relaxed attendees with her awesome massages.

To everyone who generously donated silent auction items…

John Loftin, Mary Sasson, and Zach Ward from DSI Comedy Theater.

La Residence, for hosting the event – and its staff – for providing excellent service and a beautiful atmosphere.

Keith Goodman – for designing our AWESOME flyers.

Big Fat Gap – for providing the best entertainment we could ask for.

And to everyone who attended – THANK YOU so much.

Your support is appreciated more than you could know.

It was difficult for Nicole and I to relive the experiences that inspired this fundraiser – to endure memories of our experiences with breast cancer and to share them with all who attended.

But it was worth it.

Thanks to your support, BreastFest 2008 raised over $1100 to support breast cancer research and our 60 mile walk this October in Washington, DC.

We couldn’t have done it without you.

My goal is to make BreastFest an annual event – and with your help, I think this goal is attainable.

Check back frequently – we’ll be posting updates about our training and soon, pictures and news from DC.

Finally, I’d like to add a special note regarding a guest who could not be with us on Friday evening. Courtney, a member of my program at UNC who offered her support to BreastFest, lost her beautiful son last week.

Courtney may not have been able to attend, but she and her son were with us in spirit. Knowing Courtney through my program, I wanted to note that she is one of the strongest, most beautiful women I have ever met. I want to thank Courtney for her support – even as she spent much of the summer caring for her son in the hospital, she made an effort to support BreastFest and our cause.

I thank you, Courtney, and my thoughts are with you.

Thank you all again, and we’ll see you soon.

Congrats on a great event! I’m sorry I couldn’t be there – good luck with the rest of the fund raising and I’m sure I’ll see you both when you’re up in DC in October!
