Those of you who know me personally know that I have this tendency to grow my hair out for a few months and then sporadically cut it…repeat, repeat, repeat.
This time around, I’m using my spontaneity and tendency toward making quick, irrational decisions for the benefit of others. I’m chopping off my hair again, yes, but I’m finally going to fulfill my goal of donating to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths.
What is Beautiful Lengths, you may ask…Well, all Pantene asks is that you send in eight inches of hair (now, dear reader, this means I’m going to have to do some considerable chopping). And they take that eight inches of hair (I’m hoping mine won’t include more than five percent gray!), and they make beautiful hair pieces for women who have lost their hair during cancer treatments.
Isn’t that awesome? See, I may have made snap decisions to cut my hair in the past – but I have the good fortune of having my hair grow back just the same way it came in before. Oh, and also not having to go through chemo at the same time. It’s something that many women take for granted, I think – at least those of us who have not had to endure the rigors of cancer treatment. It is time that I put my own good fortune to use for the sake of someone who needs it.
Who knows…maybe one day they will donate hair to me. Or to my best friend. Or to someone else I love.
Before and after pictures will be posted after the big chop, which commences next Saturday…
