Nope, not nervous at all.
This weekend I paid a visit to my old roommate Shelley, who lives in the majestic city of Charlotte (ahem, at least I used to think Charlotte was majestic when I was five, and growing up in a nearby town that was smaller than my townhouse’s “yard”). Visiting Shelley is always fabulous, namely because we both get to take a break from our busy lives and allow ourselves to veg on the couch and watch hours of trashy television.
(Sidenote: Dear Bridezillas, why does NC always get the WORST representation on your show? The woman you featured from Gates, NC, this weekend was absolutely hysterical.)
At any rate, Saturday we woke up bright and early to participate in the Run Like a Girl 8K at the Whitewater Center. Run Like a Girl helps to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer research and awareness. While this blog is geared toward breast cancer fundraising simply because of my own personal experience, I know that cancer can touch women (and men) in all different forms. Ovarian cancer is one of the most insidious types of cancer for a woman to have – so supporting this run was a no-brainer.
I survived five miles (running most of it, save for some of the treacherous trails – well, most of the treacherous trails), and I wasn’t even sore the next day. Go, legs! Shelley was scheduled to get up and run 22 miles on Sunday as part of her marathon training. Dear Shelley, I still think you are nuts.
The next stop was the salon for the big CHOP. I was disappointed to find my hair wasn’t quite long enough to make the required 8 inches for Pantene (well, unless I shaved my head). But, I am happy to report that I can still send my ponytail to Locks of Love, which sells shorter hair pieces to off-set their cost.
By the way, dear readers, there is just something kind of creepy about carrying around a ponytail in your purse. I’m just saying.
The moral of the story? The 8K was reassuring proof that I am on track to keep getting in shape and getting ready for the big 60 mile walk. And the haircut? Well, let’s just say I’ll be saving a lot of money on shampoo.

Hi there.

A ponytail in your purse? Hmmmm, would rather carry a nice wallet. However, would rather the word ‘cancer’ be only a distant memory for everyone and found only in the dictionary.
Love You!
